Voie d'Espoir - Reuniting family and adoptees from Haïti

RAPWOCHE KONEKTE

             Bringing Families Closer. Reconnecting Stories.

A community-based project dedicated to identifying, registering, and tracing biological families in Haiti, particularly through DNA testing.

About the Project

In 2024, Voie d'Espoir strengthened its commitment to family tracing through RAPWOCHE / KONEKTE, an initiative designed to bring family registration and tracing services directly into Haitian communities.

Implemented in partnership with Plan Kiskeya, an organization based in the Netherlands, and funded by INEA, the project aims to reduce the geographical and practical barriers that prevent many biological families from participating in the search for their adopted relatives.

The pilot phase was launched simultaneously in Cap-Haïtien and Jérémie. It laid the foundation for a community-based approach combining family registration, information gathering, and genetic testing.

Nearly 100 DNA tests were conducted during this pilot phase, contributing to the development of a database designed to facilitate the identification of potential family matches.

Our Objectives

Build a Reliable Database

Strengthen the collection, verification, and secure storage of family information.

Build a Reliable Database

Strengthen the collection, verification, and secure storage of family information.

Facilitate Access to DNA Testing

Enable biological families to participate voluntarily in genetic testing in collaboration with Plan Kiskeya.

Support Potential Family Reunions

Identify potential family matches and facilitate renewed contact while respecting the consent of everyone involved.

Since its launch, RAPWOCHE / KONEKTE has progressively expanded its community outreach activities, allowing more biological families to participate in registration and DNA collection initiatives.

On February 23, 2026, another operation organized in Les Cayes resulted in the collection of more than 50 DNA samples.

These activities contribute to expanding the information available for family tracing and increasing opportunities to identify potential family connections.

How Does the Project Work?

1. Community Outreach
Our teams organize community-based activities to inform biological families about the project and available registration opportunities.

2. Family Registration
We collect personal accounts, family information, documents, and photographs that may contribute to the tracing process.

3. DNA Sample Collection
When appropriate, families may voluntarily participate in genetic testing conducted in collaboration with Plan Kiskeya.

4. Tracing and Verification
The information collected and genetic test results may help identify potential family matches, which require further verification.

5. Mediation and Family Reunions
When a match is confirmed, our teams may facilitate communication between the individuals concerned and provide appropriate support, while respecting everyone's consent.

Perspectives

RAPWOCHE / KONEKTE aims to strengthen local capacity for family registration, expand access to DNA testing and improve coordination between field investigations and genetic matching. Through continued collaboration, Voie d'Espoir and Plan Kiskeya seek to create more opportunities for adopted individuals and biological families to reconnect.
